When I listened to the description of a provocateur, my mind immediately went to my principal, Mr. Stan Lewis. Mr. Lewis' impact on Johnson High School and the Johnson community in unquantifiable. His leadership has truly changed the atmosphere of Johnson. He entered Johnson preceded by a principal (whom I greatly admired and thought very highly of) that was considered to be strict and disconnected from the student body by both the students and some teachers. He completely changed the school for the better. He had the courage to be different and actually be involved with his students and teachers. He not only changed the perception of the administration's perception of students, but more importantly the students' perception of the administration. I can honestly say that I have never once heard a student or teacher say or even imply that they did not like Mr. Lewis. His ability to create a mutual respect in such a hostile environment to authority is what makes him a provocateur in my eyes.
I think the best way for me to become more of a provocateur is to take more risks. I usually weigh the benefits and potential losses and if the potential losses are not worth it, I usually do not take the risk. However, taking risks is a way to grow into more of provocateur by getting yourself out there. Therefore, I would like to take more risks in order to become a better and more effective provocateur.
